Responding to the reports that paper rail tickets will be scrapped across South East England in favour of contactless payments, London TravelWatch Director, Emma Gibson commented: ‘In the quest to save money there is a risk that those who do not have an Oyster card or the 1/4 million adults in London without a bank account may get left behind and be unable to access public transport. Many people also tell us that they need to buy paper tickets for parts of journeys not covered by Oyster/Contactless or if they have a Freedom Pass entitling them to free travel in London.’
