Since its formation, London TravelWatch has been the voice for millions of Londoners and visitors to the capital, speaking out to make transport safer, fairer, and more accessible for all. From campaigning for better buses to blocking the controversial plans to close rail ticket offices, London TravelWatch has consistently put passengers first.

Although our origins go back 70 years or more, London TravelWatch in its current form was established in 2000 with the formation of the Greater London Authority, with the legal name of the London Transport Users Committee.

Now, to celebrate 25 years of impact, the organisation is launching Talking Transport, a new bi-monthly podcast bringing fresh insights and lively conversation about the big issues facing London’s transport network and its passengers.

In the first episode, Chief Executive Michael Roberts is joined by Chair Tricia Hayes for a fascinating conversation about the past 25 years of London TravelWatch – and what the future might hold.

Michael Roberts said:

“It’s great to be marking the 25th anniversary of London TravelWatch. For the past quarter of a century, the organisation has done so much to support those who use transport in the capital.

“I am particularly proud of the impact we have had across so many areas. A few of our highlights have been campaigning to stop TfL going cashless at underground stations, preventing poorly-conceived closures of rail ticket offices, and our work around personal security, which has been extremely important in raising awareness around issues of safety on transport for different groups.

“We will continue to be the voice of London’s transport users, and work to achieve our vision of a city where transport is reliable, safe, affordable and accessible for everyone.”
