We welcome the announcement that London’s Mayor is laying out proposals for consistent standards for e-bike operators.
E-bike hire schemes are important and useful to many Londoners, but the number of dockless e-bikes often being carelessly dumped in the streets and blocking pavements causes a range of issues for pedestrians, particularly wheelchair users, people with buggies and those with visual impairments.
We hope the new proposals will include provision for additional parking spaces, stricter rules regarding pavement parking and better enforcement of the highway code for cyclists.
In the meantime, we urge contractors to encourage their users to be more responsible when cycling, particularly when it comes to stopping at pedestrian crossings, and to be more considerate of pedestrians when dropping off their bikes.
