London TravelWatch responds to publication of the independent review into the financing of TfL

Responding to the independent review of TfL which has been published today, London TravelWatch Director, Emma Gibson commented:

‘London’s transport system needs long term and sustainable funding and a smarter, fairer roads pricing system could play a vital part. Some of the cuts proposed in this review would take London back in time by 10 years. Cutting the Night Tube and closing some stations at weekends would be a retrograde step and affect the night time economy. Cutting staffing at stations would affect personal safety which is a particular concern for younger Londoners. But we are pleased to see the review recommend keeping bus fares low and keeping outer London bus services which Londoners are telling us that they need more than ever as they come out of the pandemic and which will help stop further dependency on the car.’
