Watchdog publishes map with less busy alternatives to popular Tube stations

26 August 2020

Transport users wanting to travel north to south across London will now be able to see at a glance how they can often make their journey without using the Tube thanks to a new series of travel hacks produced by London’s transport watchdog.

London TravelWatch and others have long been calling for Thameslink services to appear on The Tube map and early this year the London Assembly Transport Committee called for TfL to make this a reality by the end of August 2020.  But with TfL unwilling to do this, London TravelWatch has included a map of Thameslink services with Tube stations drawn on top in a series of travel hacks designed to make it easier for people to travel around London safely and avoid busy routes and stations this summer and beyond.

London TravelWatch Director, Emma Gibson commented: ‘Many people wrongly assume that taking the Tube in central London is either the only way or that it is easier and quicker. But that’s not always the case. And during the current pandemic it’s even more important that passengers wanting to travel north to south across London can see both the Thameslink and Tube options open to them, particularly as the Thameslink line is fully accessible. We’re pleased to have made this a reality.’

Emma continued: ‘Our travel hacks contain plenty of other tips to help people avoid the crowds by using lesser known stations rather than busy ones and taking the bus rather than the Tube. And the good news is that they might also save you time and money too!’

London TravelWatch will be encouraging transport users in London to try out the travel hacks for themselves and share their stories on social media along with any travel tips of their own.
