Watchdog urges TfL to step up preparations at busy stations as pubs and restaurants start re-opening this weekend

03 July 2020

London TravelWatch has called on TfL to step up preparations for dealing with crowding at busy stations after the latest travel during Covid-19 survey carried out with Transport Focus shows that 28 per cent of Londoners expect to make more journeys by public transport when pubs and restaurants re-open this weekend – almost double the nationwide figure.

London TravelWatch Director, Emma Gibson commented: ‘This weekend many more lockdown restrictions will be eased and it looks like Londoners are even keener to enjoy their new freedoms than those elsewhere in the country. We know TfL have crowd control measures in place when stations get busy but we’re worried that they are not as prepared as they could be.’

Emma continued: ‘We’ve published a list of stations that TfL expect to be busier from this weekend so people can try and avoid them*. The best bet for anyone wanting to go out and enjoy themselves this weekend is to stay local and walk/cycle to their destination where they can.’
