Greater Anglia Franchise: what passengers want on 26/05/2011
London TravelWatch has advised all the shortlisted bidders for the new Greater Anglia franchise, which is due to begin in February 2012. The franchise is a shorter one (lasting 17 months with an option to extend for a year) in order for any reforms of the rail industry to be considered for a subsequent, longer franchise.
The Greater Anglia franchise covers the line out of Liverpool Street to Essex and East Anglia via East London and the line to Hertfordshire, North Essex and Stansted Airport via Hackney, Tottenham Enfield and Walthamstow.
In Greater Anglia Franchise: Information for Bidders we discuss station standards, access to stations, cycle and car parking, signage, refund schemes and how passengers pay for travel.
We advocate station improvements at stations such as Stratford, Maryland, Hackney Downs, Walthamstow Central, Seven Sisters, Tottenham Hale and Waltham Cross.
We also explore what passengers want from services: longer trains, consistent frequencies to avoid large gaps between services at some stations and better information of service changes and disuption.
