London TravelWatch comment on TfL business plan on 29/03/2011
London TravelWatch, the watchdog for transport users in London, has commented on Transport for London’s (TfL) revised business plan, which identifies the plans for London’s transport network up for the next four years.
Jo deBank, spokesperson, London TravelWatch said: “There are some good things in the plan, including the sustained investment in the tube upgrade – desperately needed to keep London moving - and improvements at tube and rail stations. However, we are concerned about bus passengers: passenger demand is rising but capacity is not, and it is expected that people will be waiting longer for their bus in future. This will particularly affect those who rely on buses, such as shift workers, elderly, people with disabilities and those less well-off. We know from our research that a reliable journey time is the most important factor for people using buses.
“We will be studying the plan in detail to examine how London’s passengers will be affected and will be discussing them with TfL at our public board meeting next month.”
