London TravelWatch comment on Southeastern franchise on 18/03/2011

London TravelWatch, the watchdog for transport users in and around London, has commented on today’s announcement that Southeastern’s franchise has been extended until March 2014.

Jo deBank, London TravelWatch, said: “We are pleased that Southeastern are introducing the ‘delay/repay’ compensation scheme for late trains,  meaning passengers can get refunds when their trains are delayed.

“However, the majority of Southeastern’s passengers travel within London, and there doesn’t seem to be any additional benefits for them in this announcement.  There must be some gains for London’s passengers too. The original franchise was awarded on the basis of performance improvements which have not yet been fully delivered.”
