Respect agenda vital for cycling on 03/06/2009
London TravelWatch, the watchdog for transport users in and around London, supports the Mayor’s wish to quadruple cycling in London, and has published its report Cycling in London , setting out how this should be achieved.
Sharon Grant, Chair, London TravelWatch, said: “We want to see more cycling in London. As part of this, it is vital that the travelling public cyclists, pedestrians and drivers - respect each other and the rules of the road. The City of London Police is doing good work on roads policing, and we would like the Met to follow its example.”
Our report also highlights the need for investment in cycling to be on the roads cyclists actually use, not simply on dedicated cycle networks.
Sharon Grant continued: “While we support the London Cycle Network Plus Project, it is essential that investment is also directed towards roads that cyclists actually use, or want to use, for example remodelling junctions to improve cycle safety and reverting one-way gyratory systems to two way operation.”
