Blackfriars to be closed warns watchdog on 26/02/2009
London TravelWatch has reminded passengers that Blackfriars tube station will be closed from Monday 2 March until late 2011. A new railway station is being built as part of the Thameslink programme, which includes the redevelopment of the tube station.
Once the tube station is complete, passengers will benefit from step-free access, a bigger ticket hall and improved access to platforms.
Sharon Grant, Chair, London TravelWatch, said: “We know this will be extremely disruptive for passengers using Blackfriars, but in this case, we do believe that there needs to be some pain for some gain. The new Blackfriars station will provide longer trains providing more capacity, and better facilities, including step-free access. We advise passengers to use the tube stations nearby or local bus services.”
London TravelWatch also reminds passengers that the
388 bus (via Hackney, Bethnal Green and the City) will now terminate at Embankment rather than Temple, after we argued last year that Embankment provided better interchange opportunities than Temple.
