Watchdog responds to TfL business plan on 06/11/2008

London TravelWatch has commented on Transport for London (TfL)’s business plan for the next ten years.

London TravelWatch has commented on Transport for London (TfL)’s business plan for the next ten years.

Sharon Grant, Chair, London TravelWatch, said: “We are pleased to see the continued commitment to the Underground upgrades and Crossrail, which are clearly needed by passengers here and now. London TravelWatch accepts that, with the efficiency savings identified, the immediate need is to ensure that projects already under way are completed before new ones are started.”

We are concerned that the many of the other schemes that have been cancelled or postponed are in transport-poor parts of outer London with high levels of social exclusion.

Sharon Grant continued: “It is hard to reconcile this action with the Mayor’s commitment, in the policy document he released yesterday, to developing outer London and to linking transport and planning policies more closely.

“We are ready and keen to open a dialogue with the Mayor on his longer-term transport strategy, so that schemes with greatest value can be identified and re-activated as soon as possible.”
