Bus route extension welcome on 24/10/2008

London TravelWatch has welcomed Transport for London’s announcement that bus route 388 (from Hackney Wick via Bethnal Green, Shoreditch and the City) would terminate at Embankment station rather than Temple from 1 November 2008.

London TravelWatch has welcomed Transport for London’s (TfL) announcement that bus route 388 (from Hackney Wick via Bethnal Green, Shoreditch and the City) would terminate at Embankment station rather than Temple from 1 November 2008.London TravelWatch recommended this move when TfL consulted them earlier this year.

In March 2009, Blackfriars underground station will close for around two years while works linked to the Thameslink programme takes place, and Embankment station presents much better interchange opportunities for passengers using the Northern, Bakerloo, District and Circle lines from Blackfriars national rail station.

Sharon Grant, Chair, London TravelWatch said: “We are delighted that TfL accepted our recommendation to extend this route to Embankment station. It will give passengers far more choice and journey opportunities. With Blackfriars underground station closing soon, it is imperative that Blackfriars passengers have proper choices and the 388 extension provides a good alternative. It will also provide enhanced interchange opportunities for existing users of this route.”
