Verdict on launch of the Cycle Hire Scheme
On the first day of London’s new Cycle Hire Scheme, London TravelWatch has pronounced it user friendly and a huge boost for travellers in the capital.
After testing the scheme this morning with TravelWatch staff, Chair Sharon Grant commented: “Signing up to the scheme seemed pretty straightforward on Friday and the key arrived on Monday. On approaching the dock this morning, it took only 30 seconds to unlock the bike and ride off. The saddle was simple to adjust and there was no difficulty in strapping a bag onto the carrier. All in all, the bike seemed pretty lightweight and effortless to pedal away on!”
“We were pleased too that a couple of car parking places had been used for the docking station we used rather than pavement space, as we don’t want cluttered pavements as a result of the cycle hire scheme”.
“The message is that cycling makes sense in London, and this scheme makes it easy. We hope that more people new to cycling will be tempted to try the bikes.”
