Call for re-think on congestion charge

Call for re-think on congestion chargeLondon TravelWatch has repeated its concerns regarding the Mayor’s formal proposal that the Western Extension Congestion Charging zone is to be scrapped.

Sharon Grant, Chair, London TravelWatch, said: “We have previously urged the Mayor to retain the Western Extension Zone Congestion Charging Scheme as it is the only thing that will tackle one of London’s most pressing transport concerns: congested roads. It goes against the grain of the wider public concerns about both the environment and the prospect of ever more congested cities.”

Sharon Grant continued: “The Mayor’s informal 2008 consultation only took account of one small part of London, but traffic congestion and the lack of funding for transport affects the whole of London. We believe the Western Extension Zone has wider benefits for all Londoners and should be retained.”
