Paying for taxi journeys by credit or debit card
What was the issue for passengers?
Many taxis in London did not accept credit or debit card payments, so passengers needed to check before they travelled whether they could pay by this method. Taxis could also make a surcharge of £1 or 10 per cent of the fare.
What did we do?
We called on TfL to ensure that passengers are always able to pay by credit or debit card in taxis. We also argued for the removal of the additional fees.
What was the outcome?
TfL announced in February 2016 that London taxis will be accepting bank card payments from 3 October 2016 and from April 2016, operators have not been able to charge extra to passengers who want to use this means of payment.
